Jean Foillard

Taking over the family estate in 1981, Jean Foillard quickly evolved, working closely with Marcel Lapierre and young winemakers influenced by Jules Chauvet, early pioneers in Beaujolais of sustainable viticulture that allowed for natural whole-cluster fermentation. The estate gradually expanded to around twenty hectares of Gamay (though some plots have been uprooted, pending replanting), primarily located in the Morgon and Fleurie crus, to which a plot of Chardonnay for white wines has now been added. This approach prioritizes soil health and the expression of the terroir, particularly that of the Côte du Py, Corcelette, and Les Charmes vineyards within the Morgon cru. For the past forty years, Jean Foillard – now joined by his sons Alex and Louis – has built his reputation on the purity of the fruit, the silky texture and depth of the wine, a terroir character that takes precedence over the grape variety, and remarkable drinkability.
