Kleinknecht family

In the heart of Mittelbergheim, one of the most beautiful villages in France, the Kleinknecht family has been cultivating vines since 1621. André, accompanied by his wife Isabelle and their children Fanny and Jules, continues this centuries-old tradition today.

Having converted to organic farming in 1998, André adopted biodynamic farming in 2012 and obtained Demeter certification in 2014. Strongly influenced by Jean-Pierre Frick, an emblematic figure of Alsatian natural wine, he has established himself as one of the pillars of this movement in Alsace.

The estate covers just over 9 hectares spread across three communes, offering a beautiful diversity of terroirs: clay-limestone, granite, and clay-siliceous, including the prestigious Grand Cru Kirchberg de Barr. Vineyard work is carried out with respect for the environment, using plant decoctions and horses on certain plots.

In the cellar, the philosophy is radical: natural winemaking with indigenous yeasts, no filtration, and an almost total refusal of SO2. Riesling, Sylvaner, Gewurztraminer, Muscat and Pinot Noir make up a palette of sincere and vibrant wines that accurately express the diversity of Alsatian terroirs.
