Didier Barral
At the helm of Domaine Léon Barral since the early 1990s, Didier Barral has established himself as one of the leading figures in Languedoc and, more broadly, French winemaking. In Lenthéric, a hamlet near the village of Faugères, which lends its name to the appellation, the estate comprises 36 hectares of vines, as well as olive groves and cereal crops, meadows and fallow land, and a herd of Jersey cows that graze the plots from October to mid-April, contributing their expertise (weeding, fertilizing, etc.). On this schist terroir, Didier Barral pursues a constant quest for balance in the ecosystem and the wines produced there. Biodiversity, living soils, grassed vineyards, renunciation of soil-destroying plowing (replaced by the passage of a “rolofaca” roller): these are the principles which generate beautiful, healthy and ripe harvests perfectly suited to produce reds and a white of great naturalness, aged in an exceptional underground cellar.
