Les Pierres Noires

A discreet yet pioneering figure in the revival of Auvergne wines, Jean Maupertuis has been based in Saint-Georges-sur-Allier since 1996. Having briefly participated in the short-lived collective venture of Domaine de Peyra (early 2000s), he now manages his 3.5 hectares of vines quietly and, deeply inspired by the example of Marcel Lapierre and Pierre Overnoy, without ever compromising his artisanal convictions and his "natural" philosophy. From Gamay, Pinot Noir, and also the rare local Noirfleurien, as well as Chardonnay, the terroir, with its granitic or basaltic soils, yields wines of fruit and fresh minerality, with a very approachable personality that reflects that of the winemaker himself.
