The Winegrowers
Didier Barral
At the helm of Domaine Léon Barral since the early 1990s, Didier Barral has established himself as one of the great names in Languedoc viticulture and, more broadly, in France. In Lenthéric, a hamlet near the village of Faugères, which gives its name to the appellation, the estate has 36 hectares of vines, as well as olive trees and cereals, meadows and fallow land, as well as a herd of Jersey cows that occupy the plots from October to mid-April and contribute (weeding, manuring, etc.). On this schist terroir, Didier Barral pursues a constant quest for balance in the ecosystem and the wines that are born there. Biodiversity, living soils, grassy vines, renunciation of destructive ploughing of the soil (replaced by the passage of a “rolofaca” roller): these are the principles which produce beautiful, healthy and ripe harvests perfectly suited to producing reds and a white of great naturalness, aged in an exceptional underground cellar.
