Pierre Fenals

Pierre Fenals's career path is off the beaten track. After a scientific career (chemistry, biochemistry) followed by a career in business and marketing, he succumbed to the call of the land and wine: he began viticulture and oenology studies (Beaune and Dijon) and, in his fifties, embarked on a seven-year apprenticeship with various Burgundy wine estates. At the same time, as opportunities arose, he acquired plots of vines in Côte-de-Beaune, around Saint-Aubin, which were supplemented by rentals. Inspired by Steiner's Cours aux Agriculteurs (Course for Farmers) , he opted for biodynamics and, in 2009, produced his first wine, which inaugurated the creation of his Maison En Belles Lies. The estate now has 2.5 hectares of vines, spread between Côte-de-Beaune and Beaujolais, supplemented by 3.5 hectares of purchased grapes, all cultivated and vinified in the most natural way possible.
