The Winegrowers

Labet Estate

Originating from the family farm, the estate was truly created in 1974 by Alain and Josie Labet, who gave a first pioneering direction to the vineyard located in different localities in Côtes-du-Jura around Rotalier, in South Revermont. The diversity of the soils – limestone, red clay, gray marl – and exposures, as well as the singularity of the grape varieties from massal selections and the often advanced age of the vines would determine the choice of plot-by-plot vinifications, in particular the first, then extremely rare, attempts at topped-up Chardonnay (range “Fleur de Marne”). Returning from his Burgundian apprenticeship, Julien, the eldest son, began working independently in 2003 with organically grown vintages, an approach that became essential for the entire estate when it passed into the hands of the younger generation, Julien, Charline and Romain, in 2013. The vineyard now covers 14 hectares – where Chardonnay dominates 2/3 of the 45 plots –, cultivated without any other treatments than sulfur and copper and herbal teas, and produced in around thirty vintages vinified naturally and aged for a long time, with a minimal dose of sulfur added. Rarely is the desire to give the most accurate translation possible of each micro-terroir expressed in such a precise way, thus offering a superb range of wines exemplary of personality, minerality and distinction.
