The Winegrowers

Étienne Courtois

A true “peasant-winemaker” – as he puts it – Claude Courtois is a living legend in the world of natural wine. Located in the Loir-et-Cher region of the “Sologne viticole”, his estate Les Cailloux du Paradis, now passed on to his son Étienne, is a farm with 6 hectares of vines, as well as fruit trees, woods, fields and meadows. Absolute preservation of biodiversity, “traditional” work without chemicals, but also bold choices (many grape varieties escaping any appellation) and experiments in winemaking and aging, such is the philosophy of Claude and Étienne Courtois, full of strong convictions. The result is whites and reds of great singularity and great expressive power where the very strong personality of the winemaker and the character of the terroir interpenetrate in a rare and total way.
