The Winegrowers

Emmanuel Houillon

A leading figure in the Jura region today and a pioneer of “natural” wine, Pierre Overnoy took over the family vineyards in 1968, cultivated traditionally, and, following the path pioneered by Jules Chauvet in Beaujolais, he moved towards sulfur-free vinification in 1984. He transferred his estate to Emmanuel Houillon in 2001 after a decade of working together, now some 7 hectares of vines cultivated without chemicals in the commune of Pupillin (AOC Arbois-Pupillin), particularly renowned for its terroirs suited to Poulsard. In addition to “Ploussard” and its subtle reds, Savagnin and Chardonnay are used to make sulfur-free whites, topped up – except for the yellow wines reserved for vintages favorable to this type of wine – and aged for a long time. Purity, frankness and earthy nobility, expression of the terroir: wines that combine finesse and character, highly sought after by wine lovers the world over.
