The Winegrowers

Etienne Thiebaud

Established since 2007 in Cramans, near Arc-et-Senans in the northern part of the Jura vineyard, Étienne Thiebaud is particularly representative of the young innovative generation which, following in the footsteps of the great pioneers, gives its finest colors to Jura viticulture. His 5 ha vineyard includes several islands in the Arbois and Côtes-du-Jura appellations as well as IGP Franche-Comté (with very old vines including forgotten grape varieties such as Enfariné in white or Mézy in red). The primary idea, which conditions the winemaker's entire approach, is that of healthy vines, without chemical treatments, with a natural balance which allows vinifications without inputs giving free rein to the expression of the terroir. With single-variety plot cuvées – Messagelin and Chemenot in Arbois, Les Lumachelles in Mouchard – or blends, the estate, both discreet and renowned, offers some of the purest wines in the Jura, marked by a frank sapidity and a lively minerality.
