The Winegrowers
Bruno Schueller
Dominated by the ruined keeps of the three castles of Éguisheim, the famous neighboring commune, Husseren-les-Châteaux is the highest wine-growing village in Alsace. Gérard Schueller and his son Bruno, from 1982 onwards, are the leading figures, true pioneers of natural wine in Alsace. In the absence of any chemical treatment, the vines are worked in the sense of an uncompromising search for the expression of the terroir in its various components. The 10 hectares of the vineyard are composed of different plots in Husseren-les-Châteaux as well as in the village of Obermorschwihr with its beautiful terroir of the place called Bildstoecklé, to which are added plots on the two exceptional grands crus Eichberg and Pfersigberg located in Éguisheim. Depending on the specificity of each grape variety and each vine, or even certain parts of the vine, but also depending on the options chosen by the winemaker, the vintages draw a broad and original panorama of the diversity that the Alsatian vineyard carries.
