The Winegrowers

Jean-Michel Petit

Since the dawn of the 20th century, the Petit family has held its place in the small wine-growing world of Pupillin, and is today represented by two branches, on the one hand the Domaine Désiré Petit, on the other hand the Domaine de la Renardière. Jean-Michel Petit, after his viticultural studies and experiences abroad, returned to his native land and created his own estate in 1990 – soon to be named La Renardière – from a few vines rented from his father (who remained a cooperative member), gradually increased by plots that today constitute a vineyard of 7 ha. From the beginning, his project was to remain independent and close to the land, with the desire to understand the different terroirs and their singular expression: plot-by-plot vintages, respect for the soil and the environment (no chemical fertilizers or weedkillers) which led to organic practices from the early 2000s, gentle vinification and barrel aging. As the estate has evolved, the wines have gained in precision, finesse and minerality to establish themselves as one of the great expressions of the incomparable character of the Pupillin terroir.
